Mobile Animal Show Specialist

(Animal Educator / Experience Specialist)

Location: South Florida (Travel Required)

Role Overview

The Mobile Animal Show Specialist is responsible for delivering engaging, safe, and professional animal presentations at schools, private events, corporate functions, and community programs. This role represents Shadow’s Reptiles in the field and plays a key role in educating the public while maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare and guest experience.

This position requires confidence, strong communication skills, and strict adherence to animal handling and safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

Transport animals and equipment to off-site events safely and on time
Lead educational animal shows and interactive presentations
Engage audiences of all ages in a clear, confident, and professional manner
Ensure animal welfare, safety, and comfort at all times during events
Set up and break down show areas cleanly and efficiently
Monitor animals for stress or behavioral changes during events
Answer guest questions accurately and professionally
Follow all show protocols, safety guidelines, and handling procedures
Maintain professionalism with clients, staff, and the public
Communicate issues, feedback, or incidents promptly to management

Required Qualifications

Comfortable speaking to groups of children and adults
Confident, calm, and professional in public settings
Reliable transportation and willingness to travel throughout South Florida
Ability to follow protocols without deviation
Comfortable handling reptiles and exotic animals after training
Physically able to lift, carry, and set up equipment as needed
Punctual and dependable

Preferred Experience (Not Required)

Background in education, public speaking, events, or animal care
Experience working with animals, wildlife, or exotics
Customer service or hospitality experience

Pet Shop Manager

Role Overview

The Pet Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the retail pet shop, ensuring exceptional animal care, professional customer service, and smooth store operations. This role combines leadership, organization, and accountability while maintaining Shadow’s Reptiles’ standards for animal welfare, cleanliness, and customer experience.

The Pet Shop Manager acts as the point person for staff, inventory, and in-store operations and plays a key role in sales performance and team development.

Key Responsibilities

Store Operations
Oversee daily opening and closing procedures
Maintain a clean, organized, and professional retail environment
Ensure all animal enclosures meet care and welfare standards
Enforce store policies, safety protocols, and procedures
Animal Care Oversight
Ensure proper feeding, cleaning, and enrichment schedules are followed
Monitor animal health and behavior; escalate concerns immediately
Verify accurate care logs and documentation
Maintain compliance with animal welfare standards at all times
Team Leadership
Supervise, train, and schedule pet shop staff
Hold team members accountable to performance and care standards
Provide coaching, feedback, and support to staff
Assist with hiring and onboarding of new employees
Customer Experience & Sales
Deliver professional, knowledgeable customer interactions
Ensure accurate information is provided regarding animal care and products
Oversee sales transactions and customer issue resolution
Support sales goals and promotions while maintaining ethical practices
Inventory & Administration
Manage inventory levels for animals, food, and supplies
Coordinate ordering, receiving, and stock organization
Track losses, discrepancies, and shrink prevention
Maintain basic reports and communicate updates to ownership

Required Qualifications

Proven leadership or management experience
Strong organizational and communication skills
Comfort working around reptiles and exotic animals
Ability to multitask and make sound decisions
High standards for cleanliness, safety, and professionalism
Reliable attendance and accountability

Experience managing a pet shop, zoo retail, or animal facility
Background in animal husbandry or exotic animal care
Sales or retail management experience

Lead Keeper

Reports To: Owner / Operations Director

Role Overview

The Lead Keeper is responsible for overseeing daily animal care operations and ensuring that all animals receive consistent, high-quality care that meets Shadow’s Reptiles’ welfare, safety, and enrichment standards.

This role combines hands-on animal care with leadership, accountability, and oversight. The Lead Keeper sets the tone for care standards, enforces protocols, trains staff, and acts as the first point of escalation for animal health, behavior, and care concerns.

Key Responsibilities

Animal Care Oversight

Oversee daily feeding, cleaning, and enrichment schedules
Ensure all care protocols are followed accurately and consistently
Monitor animal health, behavior, and enclosure conditions
Identify issues early and escalate concerns immediately
Coordinate animal movements, introductions, and enclosure changes

Team Leadership & Training

Supervise, train, and support animal keepers and assistants
Assign daily tasks and verify completion
Enforce standards, protocols, and safety procedures
Provide coaching, feedback, and corrective guidance
Assist with onboarding and ongoing training of new staff

Record Keeping & Communication

Ensure accurate daily logs, feeding records, and care documentation
Communicate animal status updates to management
Maintain clear communication between keepers, operations, and event teams

Facility & Safety Standards

Maintain clean, organized, and safe animal areas
Ensure biosecurity and sanitation protocols are followed
Identify facility or enclosure issues and coordinate repairs
Support compliance with internal standards and inspections

Event & Show Support

Prepare animals for encounters and mobile shows as needed
Ensure animals selected for events are healthy and suitable
Coordinate with the Experience team to maintain animal welfare during events

Required Qualifications

Proven experience in animal care or husbandry
Strong leadership and team management skills
Deep understanding of animal welfare and safety
Excellent attention to detail and consistency
Ability to make calm, informed decisions under pressure
Physically capable of performing hands-on care duties
Reliable, punctual, and highly accountable

Zoo, sanctuary, or exotic animal facility experience
Experience supervising animal care staff
Background in biology, animal science, or related field
